ABOUT US
ACCO is a non-profit choral organization welcoming women from diverse backgrounds. The mission of the group is to discover and celebrate women's artistic culture and create community through the power and passion of music. Dedicated to musical excellence and the celebration of women's lives, we present music created by women, about women's stories, ability, power and uniqueness; and music inspired by diverse cultures and spiritual beliefs. We seek to celebrate women's lives by singing, playing and drumming, and to celebrate the possibilities of a world that encourages diversity and tolerance.
ACCO is committed to unique music that is seldom performed elsewhere. Our repertoire is diverse and includes women's music, songs of peace and social justice, and music from a diverse array
of musical traditions including African and Middle Eastern songs,
Spanish-language ballads and Bombas, folk songs, spirituals, classical pieces
and more. Our performances give voice to unique music that evokes deep
emotions - from sadness and solemn reflection, to celebratory joy and pure
playfulness.
For
16 years now, the group has performed at a variety of venues in the
Lehigh Valley community, including arts festivals, community gatherings, and our annual Solstice Concert in the Fall and end-of-the-season
celebration at Godfrey Daniels Coffeehouse in the Spring. The ACCO organization
also strives to support our community by bringing nationally and internationally
renown artists (e.g., Ubaka Hill , Paulo Mattioli, Barbara Crooker) to the area for workshops,
drum circles and performances.
